Our university is a modern civic university. The School of Education is committed to enacting social justice through educating passionate and informed teachers.

WHY DID THE UNIVERSITY CHOOSE TO WORK WITH SHAUN DELLENTY?

After the publication of the Teacher Standards (DfE, 2013) and the Section 5 Ofsted Guidance both made specific reference to tackling homophobic bullying the Education Team audited their confidence and knowledge to deliver training in this area and it was felt to be low. Shaun had already a proven track record of delivering impactful training for schools and ITE institutions.

HOW HAS THE WORK OF SHAUN DELLENTY IMPACTED UPON YOUR UNIVERSITY?

Shaun has had a great impact on the ITE programmes. Initially he provided training for students (trainee teachers), ITE lecturers and also the wider university staff. He was also kind enough to facilitate a placement in his school for some of our UG students who upon returning then disseminated what they had learned at the University Teaching and Learning Conference to a much wider university audience. The training and information given to staff from working with Shaun still forms the basis of university training sessions 5 years on.

HOW HAS THE WORK OF SHAUN DELLENTY/ IMPACTED UPON YOUR STUDENTS?

Our student teachers are often at the forefront of delivering change out in schools. I know that many of them have developed the confidence to challenge and educate in the area of tackling homophobic bullying out in our partnership schools, impacting on the lives of many pupils.
